Some Reflections

Hi all! This is the last post. In general, this semester has been quite difficult for me, firstly due to the current situation of the pandemic and secondly because I have been locked up at home for several months. In addition, I consider that the university load continues to be high, despite the fact that in some subjects the contents have decreased considerably. It is very difficult for me to organize my study schedule and to be able to concentrate, it is as if I spend all day in my bed with a computer, that is exhausting me. Regarding the good things, it is spending time with the family because I don't live in Santiago. I feel more accompanied and I don't have the worries of living alone in the capital. My achievement has been not having grades below 4 (until now), that leaves me calmer. I have met many people online and that has made me very happy. But you also have to stay positive, the situation has been improving little by little. I hope that in two more months we can me...

Your favorite book

Hello classmates! Today I will tell you about my favorite book. It's called "Love in the Time of Cholera" by the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez. The story is about a woman and a man who met at an early age and who after 50 years were able to realize their love, going through different adversities. I like to read various books, but without a doubt I prefer Latin American literature. This is why Gabriel García Marquez is one of my favorite authors, since his stories reflect the characteristics of Latin American society and environment, specifically the Caribbean. The last book I read was "La Peste" by Albert Camus, a French-Algerian writer known for his pessimistic philosophy. The story takes place in a city in Algeria, where such interesting events do not occur. But from one moment to the next, dead and sick rats start to appear. It is a pandemic. I recommend it because it has a lot to do with what is currently happening with the coronavirus pandemic and...

A subject you've enjoyed studying this semester

Imagen
Hi all! Today I will tell you about my favorite subject of this semester. My favorite subject is local climate, previously I had global climate. Basically both differ by the scale of study. In this class we study about the climatic processes of a city, which in turn is divided into zonal climate (neighborhoods or streets) and micro climatology (the behavior of a room or a park). The main contents that I have seen in classes have been local, marine, valley and mountain breezes. Heat islands, energy balances, solar radiation, insolation, urban climatology, etc. The subject is quite theoretical, but through ArcGIS we can model processes and do cartographies and researches. Some of the activities we have been working on are solar radiation from a commune for the installation of meteorological meters and also perception surveys carried out on different people. I like it because in the future I would like to specialize in climatology (or perhaps geomorphology, I'm not sure) sinc...

Your Bucket List

Hello again :) Like all young people, I have many wishes, some more possible than others. As for the academic subject, my dream is to finish university with a good grades and then work on something that meets my expectations. But before graduating I would like to take a trip with my friends from university and be able to appreciate the landscape with the knowledge that we have learned. Last year I fulfilled one of my little dreams: to go to a black metal concert. Years ago I like rock and metal. The concert was great, so I plan to save up to go see Opeth (one of my favorite bands) and Emperor (a Norwegian band) next year. I hope that some friend will accompany me. Finally, my most difficult and long-term project is to get to know Iceland. It is difficult because it is very expensive to travel to that country, but it is worth it since it has incredible landscapes. I would like to travel with my older brother, since he usually goes hiking and he has told me several times how grea...

Who is a person/expert on your field that you admire?

Hello classmates! This time I will talk about Marcelo Lagos, a renowned geographer who generally has television appearances. Lagos born on July 25, 1972 in Arica, Northen Chile. He studied geography at the Pontificial Catholic University of Chile. Once he graduated from the career, he specializes in natural disasters, especially earthquakes and tsunamis. For this same reason he became known nationally, as he is constantly invited to the panels when there is a great earthquake in the country. I greatly admire Marcelo's scientific career, because he can explain geographic phenomena in a way thar ordinary people can understand. Marcelo is also doctor of environmental sciences, graduated from the University of Concepcion. Hopefully in the future I will have the chance to meet him at the some conference since he is a legend among peography students. Finally, I want to add something funny. Most people do not know what geography really is, some confuse it with geology or pedagogy in his...

A photograph you like

Imagen
Hi guys, today I will tell you about my favorite photo. I took this photo in November of last year. It was on a trip that I did with my brother and his girlfriend. This place is localed in the commune of Vichuquén, in the Maule Region. There are only two ways to go to that place: walk about two hours or go by helicopter. So it seems that it is a bit mystical, it's no easy to find it. In the photo a lighthouse appears, where there is a great view towards the sea. It's not know who is the real owner of that site and why he built a lighthouse in the middle of the hills. It's my favorite photo because it reminds me of a great experience, especially the different signs that were near the lighthouse, on one of them was written "blessed are those who believe because they see in the dark".

Tv shows and series

Hello everyone! Lately my favorite series is "Grey's Anatomy". I don't usually watch many series but this one has left me stuck with its seasons. It is about the life of surgeons in a Seattle hospital. I like it because sometimes it represents quite interesting medical cases. One of the most famous series I have not seen is Vikings, I tried to watch the first season but it always ended up boring to me in the fourth chapter hahaha. Maybe I couldn't appreciate how good the plot is. With regard to television shows, the only one I see is "Master Chef", I like the Chilean and Spanish versions. If I had to recommend and animated series, would be "Avatar, the legend of Aang". It's great, since everything changed when the fire nation attacked. It also represents the Asian culture and some aspects of Buddhism. Bye!
